Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Online Purchases
When you purchase a book, ebook, digital product or other item from us, we may collect information including your name, email address, billing information, delivery address, details of the products purchased and information relating to your order.
We use this information to:
- process and fulfil your order;
- provide downloads or other digital content you have purchased;
- arrange printing and delivery of physical books;
- communicate with you about your order;
- deal with refunds, returns or customer-service enquiries;
- maintain accounting and tax records; and
- prevent fraud and protect the security of our business.
Where purchases are made through our Payhip store, Payhip may process information necessary to administer the transaction and provide the service.
Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers such as Stripe or PayPal. We do not normally receive or store your full payment-card details.
Where you purchase a printed book fulfilled by BookVault, we may provide BookVault with the information necessary to print and deliver your order, such as your name, delivery address and details of the book ordered.
The lawful basis for using your information to process and fulfil an order is normally that it is necessary to perform our contract with you. We may also retain information where necessary to comply with legal, accounting or tax obligations.
Email Marketing
We will only add you to our marketing mailing list where you have chosen to receive marketing emails from us or where we are otherwise legally permitted to contact you.
For example, customers purchasing our humour and joke books may be offered the opportunity to join the 1001 One-Liners Club. If you choose to join, we may send you our newsletter together with information about related books, products, promotions and occasional special offers.
Where you consent to receive marketing emails, your name and email address may be transferred to our email service provider, MailerLite, which we use to manage and send our email communications.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link contained in our marketing emails.
Choosing not to receive marketing emails will not affect your ability to purchase from us.
Who We Share Your Data With
We may share personal information with trusted service providers where necessary to operate our website, process orders, deliver products, or communicate with customers.
These may include:
- Payhip – for operating our online store and processing orders;
- Stripe and PayPal – for payment processing;
- BookVault – for printing and fulfilling physical book orders;
- MailerLite – for managing email newsletters and marketing communications where you have chosen to receive them;

How Long We Retain Your Data
Order and transaction records may be retained for as long as necessary for accounting, tax, legal and business-record purposes. Where records form part of our company accounting records, these will normally be kept for at least six years in accordance with UK record-keeping requirements.
Marketing information will normally be retained while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we may retain limited information about your opt-out so that we can ensure we do not accidentally add you back to the mailing list.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where Your Data May Be Processed
Some of the service providers we use may process or store personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal information is transferred outside the UK, we take appropriate steps to ensure that it is protected in accordance with UK data protection law. This may include relying on UK adequacy regulations or appropriate contractual safeguards.
Visitor comments may also be checked through an automated spam detection service.
